PEERS® Social Skills Program

NOW ENROLLING!

Program Start Date: September 11
Duration: 12 weeks

Overview:
Our 12-week evidence-based social skills program is designed for motivated young adults who are eager to enhance their social skills, make and keep friends, and build meaningful relationships. We follow the PEERS® (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills) method, a research-backed intervention initially developed at UCLA by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson.

Who is it for?
This program is ideal for young adults who are ready to improve their social interactions. While it was originally created for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), it is also effective for those with ADHD, anxiety, depression, or other social challenges.

What to Expect:
During each group session, participants will learn essential social skills and have the chance to practice them in a supportive environment. Additionally, parents or social coaches will attend separate sessions where they’ll be equipped with effective strategies to support the young adults in their social development.

Topics Covered Include:

  • Conversational Skills

  • Appropriate Use of Humor

  • Electronic Communication

  • Handling Direct and Indirect Bullying

  • Handling Arguments & Disagreements

  • Organizing Get-Togethers with Friends

  • Dating Skills

  • Strategies for Handling Sexual Pressure

Individualized Support:
For those who require more personalized attention, individualized coaching options are available.

Commitment:
Participants must be independently motivated to join and fully engage in the program. While having a social coach (a participant-chosen relative or non-relative) is preferred, it is not mandatory. The social coach and participant will work together to generalize the skills learned each week, ensuring the lessons extend beyond the classroom.

PEERS® was developed in 2004 by UCLA’s Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson, a licensed clinical psychologist and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior.

From the beginning I could tell that they were organized in what my son needed for the steps after High School...They made everything fun for my son, while he was getting more social, and learning things like the DMV driving rules, transportation training, and learning to eat new foods...They listened intently to my concerns and never made me feel like I was a disruptive parent bothering them.
